LOS ANGELES, CA – Interscope Geffen A&M Records (www.interscope.com) and Infinite Mobility (www.infinitemobility.com) have launched “My Music” the first, comprehensive direct handheld connection between individual popular musical acts and their fans. “My Music” provides the opportunity for fans to access up-to-date news, tour dates, as well as order the music and merchandise of their favorite artists, using AvantGo’s sync technology. The first featured artists include Eminem, No Doubt, Dr. Dre, Mya, Beck, Enrique Iglesias, and Sting. The Wallflowers and U2 are scheduled to be featured in the upcoming months, and Interscope Geffen A&M will be adding different artists on a monthly basis.
Planned and created by Infinite Mobility and developed in tandem with mobileStorm, a mobile solutions developer for the entertainment industry, the application allows the label’s artists greater interaction with their fans across the globe. Fans can add an artist’s channel to their PDAs with one click, provided they are using a device supported by AvantGo software. Currently, AvantGo provides free content to over 700,000 users, with 20,000 new users signing up every week.
“Interscope’s intent is to provide as much information to the fans of IGA ¹s artists in order to extend our lead as the number one music label,” said Courtney Holt, Head of New Media for Interscope Geffen A&M Records. “‘My Music’ is the first step in our goal to build a mobile music community by putting the most up-to-date information in the hands of fans. Our plan is to stay on the cutting edge of technology.”
Interscope Geffen A&M plans to market “My Music” to the quickly growing number of handheld device users. In the May 29th, 2000 issue, Time magazine reported that PDA sales are projected to rise from 8.9m in 1999 to 35m by 2003.
“Infinite Mobility is devoted to pushing the envelope with mobile devices,” said Jonathan Schreiber, founder and CEO. “By marrying new media with the entertainment industry, we’re creating new outlets for the consumer, and new revenue streams for the content providers. We are glad to work with companies like Interscope Geffen A&M and mobileStorm who intend on being leaders in this sector.”
“Through ‘My Music,’ we’re breaking down the barriers between popular artists and their fans, as well as providing Interscope with the ability to connect with audiences right when they hear a song, think of a melody, or want artist information. While music is always around us, our access to artists and artist information hasn’t been. We’re changing that with ‘My Music,'” stated Jared Reitzin, mobileStorm’s President and CEO.
Links to the artist channels on “My Music” are available through the individual artist sites, AvantGo, as well as through Interscope Geffen A&M’s website, www.interscope.com.
